DIBRUGARH: Another accused in the Anand Sharma ragging case surrendered before Dibrugarh police on Saturday. The student has been identified as Kalyan Dutta.

Earlier on Friday, taking to his social media handle, the accused, Kalyan Dutta went live and said, "As Bhagawan Ramchandra went on exile (vanvas) as per his father's wishes, I am also not living in the comforts of a home with family. This is like vanvas for me."

Further claiming that he is innocent in the entire ragging episode, Dutta said, "I gave my word, I will turn myself in but before that I request you all to find proof against me if I have done anything wrong," he said in the live video post.

Dibrugarh Additional SP(HQ) Bitul Chetia said, "Till now six students of Dibrugarh University were arrested in connection with the ragging incident. Today, Kalyan Dutta, another accused in the case surrendered before police. The main accused, Rahul Chetri is still absconding." On the other hand, Anand Sharm's health has improved on Saturday. He was seen sitting in his hospital bed. A five member team of doctors performed his surgery on Thursday at a private hospital in Dibrugarh.

Meanwhile, Dibrugarh University Anti Ragging Committee has applied for permission at CJM Court to allow two members for taking the hearing of five accused students from jail.

The Anti Ragging Committee has already held hearing of testimony of 12 accused students in connection with the ragging incidents. Punishment to four students has already been announced. After completing the hearing of the remaining 5 accused, the committee will announce their verdict against remaining 11 students.

Talking to media person, Dibrugarh University Register, Paramananda Sonowal said, "We have constituted the high power committee to inquired the whole incident of ragging. The committee has been thoroughly inquiring every aspect. A counseling team was formed to counsel the students and already the process has been started." "From the next session, we are planing for separate hostel for the seniors and juniors students. CCTV cameras will be installed in every hostel to check the activities of the students," Sonowal added.
